Jiujitsu

What is Jiujitsu?

Jiujitsu is a martial art that focuses mainly on groundfighting. The sport is based on self-defense but is nowadays also practiced as a competitive sport. In Jiujitsu, the goal is to control your opponent on the ground. This is done by using leverage instead of force and by submissions such as joint locks or chokes. Jiujitsu is a growing sport that is gaining more and more ground these days.

As a registered school under the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF), we adhere to the rules and regulations published by the IBJJF. These include the official rules along with the belt graduation system for both kids and adults.

Jiujitsu

In JiuJitsu, you will learn how to defend yourself with different techniques, such as throws, takedowns, ground positioning, and submissions that focus on dealing with someone who may be bigger or stronger than you. We will help you learn to nurture the mental strengths and physical skills needed if you are ever faced with a scenario where you have to physically defend yourself.

Although during training our students refine their fighting skill sets, what most people do not realize is that these same training methods also help with your daily battles in life, like self-confidence, relationships at work, school, and at home, discipline, and stress.

Joshua Kirchmeier – Assistant Instructor

Hi my name is Joshua Kirchmeier and I am an instructor/owner at Legacy Jiujitsu. I have been training for a little over 8 years and a Brown Belt. I started training Jiujitsu for both the mental and physical challenges it brings. Physical in that you will learn how to move and utilize your body to perform the techniques you will acquire to de-escalate most physical altercations. Mentally, Jiujitsu is a human chess game for the time period you are rolling with an opponent. Not only do you have to know what your game plan is but have to have the mental capacity and toughness to defend what is thrown at you. I feel if you can develop the mental and physical aspects of Jiujitsu there is no challenge in real life you cannot handle.

Legacy Jiujitsu is a great place to train because we have the proven ability to teach Jiujitsu to anyone with little to no experience to someone who has wrestled their entire lives. We currently have all genders, shapes and sizes to train with and with the family atmosphere it is worth giving it a shot!

Patrick Robinson – Choke U

My name is Patrick Robinson. I am a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu addict. Choke-U is the name of my BJJ team. I love to train, teach and compete in this awesome martial art and sport. I’ve been all over the USA and to Japan, Brazil, Germany and Portugal for BJJ tournaments. I currently offer BJJ classes at the YMCA in Valparaiso, Indiana.
